So with my 340HP the pickups for the 250, 300 and 340 HP cars are the same using pump you describe. Is the oil pump drive shaft the same on each of the HP cars?

    Thanks again for the information.

For a 1963 340 HP you should do as Duke mentions. Check your oil pressure gauge range. If it tops out at 60psi, then use the standard volume, standard pressure pump. If it tops out at 80 psi, then use the standard volume, high pressure version.

The problem with aftermarket pumps, though, is that, usually, none of the springs supplied will produce pressure the same as either of the original GM springs.

I forgot to ask in my previous post, but why do you think you need to replace the oil pump.

The only reason is that it is an original pump that came with the car which I have had since the mid 60s. For unknown reason even with the engine rebuild I kept the same oil pump. Since I am changing gaskets the change is easily available. I plan to keep the old pump.

I would like to thank all for both the history lesson of the pump, pump performance and related equipment and giving me the information I was looking for in order to purchase the correct parts.

        Thanks again
