    Early 1956 Firewall Insulation Fasteners

When I took my 56 apart for restoration the insulation was held on by Metal fasteners with the head about 5/8 diameter. The insulation has slots cut for the fasteners to go through. In the judging manual it calls for the rubber fasteners referred to as rubber fastener with JM marking. My new insulation came with the slots which look the same as what's left of my old ones.
Has anyone seen these metal fasteners used before. If so does anyone know where to get them
    Thanks
    Sheldon

    Sheldon,
Those are used on earlier C3’s (70-72ish) to hold the weatherstripping seal at the top between the radiator support and the underside of the hood. Most vendors should have those. I don’t know if the length of those is the same as yours. Some are oval and others are round on the top like yours.

Those are 53 54 55 fasteners that hold the firewall insulation to the firewall ! how early is the 56 ? - I am sure they were left over 55 parts - this is a circumstance where the JM is possibly incorrect and the assembly line used left over prior model year parts....Chris TiN Restorations

I believe these metal retainers were utilized in the 1949-54 chevy pass cars to fasten the firewall insulation to the firewalls. mike

Chris, It is very early 56 #282 so I am sure they are left over from previous year. How do you suggest an amendment to JM for future reprint.
          Thanks for your info

            Sheldon,

Do you have a '55 style heater or a '56 style heater?

The defroster box was gone but I have the heater which is the 56 style with the heater hose control valve.

                Sheldon,

As another poster previously said, the plant was cleaning out the bins leftover from 55 production, which was not uncommon. Several of the late
'57's have '56 parts on them and '58 engine parts.

You might send photos of the fasteners before removal to the '56-7 Team Leader to update the JM.

These fasteners are quite different than the ones you mention. I found out they were from 53-55 and mine being early car they were using up left over parts. I did find them at DocRebuild.
                      Thanks
