I'm installing a new under dash wiring harness, instrument cluster, etc. where previous shop removed everything. My main concern is the wiper cables and interference. Right now, I have the oil pressure line running in between them. Does anyone have any photos to share showing original or accurately positioned items around the cables and wiring positioning? Thanks in advance for your help. Jim

Re: 61 Wiper cable clearance
Jim,
Over the many 58-62's I've worked on or restored over the years, every one of them looked a bit different from another car..... when I'd get under the dash. The AIMs show some images of routing, not really much help though, as once you get under there and try to match the AIM, it's somewhat confusing how they did it. I think the assemblers threw those pages of the AIM in the trash and just did it the way they liked to make their job faster and easier.
I know I've done it that way on every car I've done, following some of the AIM initial harness routing and how it lays into the clips and turns. Typically my end result was a neater and unobstructed routing, with the most important factor being to ensure the wiper cables are as far away as possible from the harness so the cables don't "saw" their way through the wires.
Here are some underdash photos of the type of routing I've done, from the fuse panel, under the cluster, over to the radio panel and from the engine harness near the ballast into the underdash over the the Ign switch and Ammeter. I'll see if I can remember a few tidbits of info and add to the photos. This was on a '60 I restored about 8 years ago so I might be a little off on a few notes. Going from memory. Most views are from camera are pointing to the sky looking up from the floor.
Here you can see the oil line passing below the 2 wiper cables. Note it then bends sharply"upward" towards the firewall grommet. I recall this is the best path for the line as the cowl vent can hit it of it's in the way. And with that in mind, when you're routing everything, remember to exercise the cowl vent to opened/closed to ensure clearance of the cowl vent it self along with its lever arms and hinges.

The fuse was added at the Ammeter input from the Black feed wire. I simply add ring terminals the the fuse holder wire ends and machine screws to attach to the harness, wrapped with heat shrink and tape. It's a 30A for catastrophic short protection. Also a 15A fuse at the lighter. You can't see it but I always added a 15A for the clock too.

Here's another image with some notes about the fuses.

Below, you can see the speedometer(iirc) cable going between the 2 wiper cables. When you get yours positioned, you may have to bend the speedo/tach cables a bit to keep it relaxed between the 2 moving cables. Trial and error. The narrow "helix" cable(s) are the hood release cables. That in itself is another treat. Try to follow the AIM where they route the Pass side cable, forward of the cowl vent into the dropped clips attached to the windshield frame T-Bolts. Make sure you have those special clips. The Engine harness and part of the Main harness are held by those also.

As mentioned, route everything with the mindset of safety and you'll be fine.
