Flying F headmark bolts on C2s

Of the many hundreds of original bolts that I’ve removed from my ‘66 I have yet to find any with the “Flying F” headmark, of the type shown here (from a Rich Mozzetta posting):

Scant few people report finding that headmark on C2 cars. Locations mentioned include:

    Seat bracket bolts
    Front sway bar bracket bolts

Has anyone ever seen Flying F headmark bolts on a ‘66? If so, where?

    Gary

Yes, now that you mention it, I do remember sway bar bolts. Hey give me a pm about exhaust clamps when you have time.

Those of us with C2s are very familiar with the E headmark version. The AMK description says the flying F version was used after 6-28-72. So, maybe the flying F headmark was more common on C3s. Just speculating.

Michael, What years? There weren't supply chain issues back in the 60s-70s. Sort of like the bumper bolts, RBW long, RSC short ones were what was used in ST LOUIS in 66/67 as verifiend on very low mile benchmark cars. In service - one supplier got the business M.

Well, I have some new evidence that adds to my confusion. In one of my storage bins of removed, original parts from my ‘66 I just found a baggie, labeled “Seat mount bolts, front”. I bagged those bolts about 25 years ago when I removed the seats on my ‘66, and here’s what is confusing; inside the baggie are 6 bolts. Of course, there should be only 4. All 6 bolts are indented hex head, 1/2” AF, 5/16”-18, Gr. 5.1, with a 0.75” OD captive washer. All appear to have a black phosphate finish. Some bolts are fiat ended; some have a short tapered end, with a blunt tip.

Three of the bolts have an E headmark; another bolt has a headmark in the form of large G surrounding a smaller L; and two bolts have the flying F headmark.

The washer on the GL headmark bolt is slightly concave, not flat. That GL bolt was broken in two, with the tail end missing, so I don’t know its length or end geometry.

The two flying F bolts have flat ends and are 13/16” long. To the best of my knowledge, neither of the repro parts companies I used years ago (Paragon and Long Island Corvette) made reproductions of the flying F bolt, so I’m nearly certain the two flying F bolts in my baggie are GM bolts, and likely original to my car. The two bolts also look old, and used. Here’s a close-up image of the head of one of those two bolts.

Unfortunately my lapse in adequate documentation 25 years ago means I’ll never be able to sort out this mystery.
