    62 Hardtop Headliner Scoring Question

I am new to NCRS and only recently acquired an original 62 with 45,000 miles which was a Regional Top Flight winner about 15 years ago and not kept up to the standards I would expect. I have a large noticeable stain in the center of the headliner and was wondering what the scoring impact would be of leaving "as-is" versus painting or replacing headliner? I am still trying to learn what to do versus NOT to maintain originality. Any input would be appreciated.

    Thank you in advance.

Re: 62 Hardtop Headliner Scoring Question

The hardtop headliner has 15 points for Originality, 15 for Condition.

So, out of 15 for condition I suspect you would receive a deduction for "some" but not "all" of the 15 points.
It's difficult to give an exact number without seeing it. If you mentally think 5 points, I suspect you're close.

Glen, I'd agree with Patrick, in that it would likely be a minor Condition deduct. Most judges, and most observers, like to see original features.

I haven't seen the reproductions in some time, but if recognized as NTFP, not typical factory production, it's possible you could loose much more in negative points.

My '62 project car had a droopy headliner, but I planned on trying to repair it. It fell apart and I had no choice. I never replaced it as someone else acquired the car.

In your case, that stain may in fact be correctable, especially with today's cleaning technologies.

Could the stain be cleaned? Maybe it a water stain or something scrubable? If you could, post a photo of the culprit.

P.S. WELCOME! I see this is your first post. More photos of your '62 would be fun to see.

Just curious could the stain considered part of cleanliness is this situation ? I know that condition may also be part of a 60 year old headliner anyway.I just read the JRM it is spelt out in there, Patrick has it correct.
