    Re: Crack Baby

One way to to stop a crack from propagating is to drill a hole ahead of the crack, but I'm not recommending that at this point. Take a good photo and post it. It may just be a crack in the paint (What is the type an and age of the paint?) not actually in the fiberglass.

Can you see a crack on the bottom side?

More info is needed. Don't rush to judgement.

Duke, No crack on the underside, but the hood seems to be two layered. And, I looked again today and the crack seems to be lengthening. The body shop that repainted this car with lacquer for me, back in 1998, has closed/retired. The local Chevy dealership has 5 new Vettes on the floor. I may ask their body shop this week. Does my insurance cover any of this?

      Best,
      Jack

Can you post a photo? What's type of paint and what is the age of the paint job?

I doubt if insurance would cover a repair unless it was due to collision damage or damage from some cause covered by comprehensive insurance.

Picture worth 1000 words, however lacquer is not crosslinked and can be "melted". Unless oxidized and evaporating as the original NC lacquer that was used to paint fan shrouds did/does. Don't use epoxy - will make a mess of it.
