I agree with you Jeffrey. My 69, #3676, Oct 4, 1968 build date has the diverter. I purchased the car in 1981 with a piss-poor Blue repaint so I don't know if it was originally painted or unpainted. I stripped the car and repainted it to the original Riverside Gold, including the door jambs. I was questioned about paint on the diverters at a Regional Meet so I stripped the paint for a later National meet, which I now think was a mistake. I'll get around to repainting it someday.
