    Joe,

And I hope Dan Young (for '67's) and Dave Brigham see this post. Please make sure this issue of batteries gets discussed at the Judging Retreat which begins tomorrow night in Dallas. The back and forth in this thread makes apparent the differing views judges (and judges 'in training' like me!) have regarding deductions for batteries.

Wayne, I'll discuss this at the retreat. I will also see if we need to clarify anything in the Standard Deduct table. Bad timing for that since a new revision was just printed to hand out at the JTR this weekend.

I checked this morning according to the AC/Delco catalog the only oem battery listed for 1967 is a group 24 not a group 34
That is a current replacement size . Group 24 batteries are still available from AC/Delco and as noted the group 34 is not the same dimensions of the group 24

Mark: If we are getting that technical the current Group 24 Battery IS NOT THE SAME SIZE AS THE ORIGINAL
GROUP 24 BATTERIES BACK THEN. So if you buy a Group 24 or Group 34>THEY ARE BOTH NOT THE
ORIGINAL SIZE. SO> I would say both should receive TOTAL DEDUCTION as they do not match the original
          size. JMHO>Larry

Mark, We know the "Listed" battery for 63-67 Corvettes is a Group 24. Other than height, the group 34 battery is the same size. It fits the battery tray perfectly. In the automotive world, a group 24 and group 34 battery is interchangeable.

I'll discuss this with the other team leaders and Dave Brigham to see if we want to have judges take a Full 40 point deduct on a Delco Group 34 Battery correctly installed. I think we are really reaching here, but I have been wrong before and certainly will be wrong sometime again in the future.

Then OEM brand radial tires of a diffent size used in judginig would be the same?

I happy with Joe scafidi's decision regarding battery deductions. I favor being equally lenient for radial tires . mike mccagh

I agree with Joe. The Group 24 and Group 34 should both have the standard deduction taken. Seems fair.

If a BCI Group 34 Battery is placed in a '63, does the hold down frame w/Shield (nonAC car) fit properly? I'm concerned whether the shield portion would interfere with the tray given the shorter height of the Group 34 vs 24.This is the part I'm referring to:

If you get your car judged you should get a 100% deduction for a 34 vs a 24 series battery.

I know the Group 24 Battery is Correct but the Group 34 is identical except for
being 1" shorter which is very much welcomed for installation. Sale will go on till
                            3/10/24 AFAIK. Thanks>Larry

Sorry to be late to the party, but I have been otherwise occupied. I though this information might be of interest to some of us.

The local East Penn battery distributor tells me that the AC Delco batteries at Menards are made by East Penn. They are the only battery manufacturer still making batteries in the USA.

I don't want to deflect this thread into politics. I still believe in the old rules that we talk about Corvettes and not religion or politics, but all to few products are made in the USA now days and I know some of us prefer to buy products made here.

Everything seems to be re-labeled these days. I just installed a NAPA AGM battery in my '67. The NAPA battery is a re-labeled DEKA battery which is made by East Penn.

A 1"x8" board painted black under the Group 34 battery would solve the height problem and would pretty much be undetectable.
