FWIW> Just bought the above which includes the rebate for my 66 Corvette. Yes
I know the Group 24 Battery is Correct but the Group 34 is identical except for
being 1" shorter which is very much welcomed for installation. Sale will go on till

For judging there is no additional deduction because it's a Group 34.

25% Deduction. Delco, "correctly-sized" service replacement. The way I read the Battery Standard Deduction, 100% deduction, originality and condition for all others. If the size of the Delco battery is not correct, 100% deduction?

Believe the judges would be hard pressed to tell the difference. It would be very hard to
measure the true height of the battery. (Gr. 24 VS. Gr. 34) With the battery shields, hold
downs and the use of "battery mats" it would be very hard to measure. See Below:
Of course JMHO>Larry P.S. When I compared the both batteries the difference was less
then 1".

Group 24 & 34 are both acceptable Delco batteries for 63-64 Judging. The team will judge both the same. Standard deduct of 25%.

Thanks for that clarification Joe, left to my own devices if I saw a 34 on it instead of a 24 I would have done a full deduct.

Mike, It would have to fall into the "Significantly Dissimilar" category to get the full deduct.

I would say that since groups 24 & 34 are the same size (Width and Length), and fit the holders the same, we should consider them proper. The height difference is pretty insignificant. With the Naked Eye they both appear the same!

That makes sense Joe, I have never seen a 34 next to a 24 so would probably not know without the number on it then.

Joe, The 34 series is 1" shorter in height, if it was installed in a 67 you could see the difference as it would be below the edge of the heat shield by 1". When I read the standard deduct table for 25% it says " Delco, correctly sized service replacement with appropriate top or side post configuration " The correct size is a 24 series not a 34 series and they still make the 24 series so it should be 100% deduct for incorrect size.

Mike, This is a standard deduct item. It is not that subjective. As the 63-64 Team Leader, I would not allow any of my judges to take a larger deduction than the 25% for a group 34 Battery correctly installed with all the hardware.

If you feel it's a larger deduction than that, discuss it with your team leader. See what he thinks.

Has then been discussed with Dave B ? If it has and he agrees then the Standard Deduction defintion of 25% " correctly sized service replacement "needs to be changed to eliminate confussion.

You would have to thread down and cut the excess rod off of the J hook. Or make up a spacer for under the battery and see how the battery stays put after a few good runs on a windy road.
