    1. Fill the reservoir to the proper cold level.
    2. Raise the front wheels.
    3. Turn the steering wheel lock to lock with the pump running for about 60 seconds.
    4. Recheck the fluid level and verify no leaks. Repeat step 3.
    5. Road test recheck.

Be sure to use the Delco Steering fluid.

There may still be some of the old fluid in the system. If you want to insure it's all flushed out, raise the front end, disconnect the return line and direct it into a container. With a helper adding fluid to the reservoir start engine and slowly turn the steering wheel back and force about one-quarter turn. Have at least a quart of fluid on hand and run around 3/4 through then shut off the engine.

Connect the return hose and repeat the procedure briefly to purge any air. Fill the reservoir as needed and check after the first drive.

If the system has filter, replace it.

As far as the fluid is concerned. The referenced Delco fluid is likely for modern GM cars. Sixties vintage cars usually specified ATF. Look in your owners manual and CSM. Then do some research to determine a modern equivalent. You can probably find something less expensive.

          Duke, Good point about flushing.
Here is a thread of interest.

Duke, I remember doing this job quite a while ago to my 71 and now remember running the engine to bleed the system. Also thanks for the heads up on the GM p/s fluid.
            Dave, Good link.

I have read several posts about this P/S Bleeding Procedure. I guess I need somewhat of a clear cut step by step. I just installed a new P/S to my 63, so there is no fluid in the system at all.

Here's what I'm seeing and reading:
              1. Fill the reservoir (Fill full with the 2.3Pints??)
              2. Do I leave the cap off during the bleeding procedure to let the air escape?
              3. Should the front wheels be off the ground during this procedure?
              4. Then turn the wheels left to right several times fully (still with the cap off?)
              5. Check the fluid level and the system for any leaks. (Hopefully...no leaks)
              6. Does NAPA P/S fluid replace the A/C Delco fluid?
              7. Some "instructions" mention adjusting the steering with no specificity. Any ideas on how to check if the steering needs an adjustment?
              8. Any other tips and/or suggestions?

              THANKS!!!
