    1971 Heater Core, no A/C

    I came across a heater core on E-bay that is listed as a: 68/79 corvette heater core GM NOS! 3014900 without C60 air condition. Attached are 2 pics of the unit. I contacted the seller to determine if this item had the Harrison logo stamped on it. He replied that there is no logo on it. So I would appreciate it if anyone can provide any info on the manufacture of this unit.

    Thanks for reading.

    Does the part number match what's in the AIM?

    I would take an ACDelco like that over most current day heater cores anytime.
    Or, you can have yours "recored" like a radiator.

      My copy of the AIM (UPC 1, Sheet M1) shows PN 3984664 - HEATER & DEF ASM. My educated guess is that this PN includes the heater box, PN 3014336, the 2 vacuum actuators and apparently the heater core. Several Corvette vendors callout 3014900 as the GM PN for my car. The heater core in my car was not a Harrison unit and the radiator shop tech thought it looked like it came form south of the border. Unfortunately, it could not be recored.

        I too deduced it was part of the assembly, probably all supplied by Harrison.
        I have a set of 1971 Chevrolet Parts Counter Books, I will consult them later this afternoon and see if I can find the part number there.

        I second Patrick on desirability, that part would be a great pick up if anywhere close to current replacement prices.
        If it were 50% above current like replacement (brass) I would not have issue paying the price.

        I'm having too much fun playing in the creek, seems I've reverted back to childhood ever since I got a backhoe attachment for my JD tractor.

          This is a genuine GM replacement and of the original PRODUCTION and SERVICE part number. However, this core was available in SERVICE for many years. In fact, from 1968 until September, 1999 when it was replaced by GM #52484059. Earlier manufactured examples have the Harrison embossments; later examples, like this one, do not.

          You will likely find that this core will not fit exactly right in your heater box but with very slight modifications to the box, it will work and fit fine. Keep in mind that even if you have your original re-cored, it might not fit exactly right, either. That's because the core will likely be of a little different length than the original. So, even though you will have the original end tanks (which no one will ever see anyway) the finished product will be slightly dimensionally different.

          By the way, if you have a 1971 with an aluminum radiator (small block with 4 speed and without C-60), I recommend going with a currently available aluminum reproduction heater core. The big advantage: the tubes are WELDED to the core, not soldered rendering the core "virtually immortal".

            Thanks for weighing in on my request for heater core info Joe. My car is an LT-1 and currently has a Dewitts aluminum replacement radiator. I could not find an aluminum heater core for a non A/C C3 Corvette online but came across this unit for Camaros - see attached pic. Dimensionally it looks like it will fit the heater box. Is this what you had in mind?

              I would not go with the unit you found for a Camaro and you don't have to. The correct Corvette cores can be found as linked below:

              A few additional notes on this subject:

              1) All of these aluminum cores that I have seen are of foreign manufacture (China, Mexico). However, having inspected some, they seem to be of good quality;

              2) If strict originality is a concern for you, the aluminum inlet/outlet tubes will be detectable. So, if that's a concern, you might not want to use an aluminum core;

              3) There could still be slight fitment problems with these (as there probably will be with the Delco core you pictured);

              4) Whether you use the Delco core or an aluminum core, use Zerex G-05 coolant
