    58 Deck Lid Holes

I took my 58 Vette's deck lid off the other day and I noticed another set of holes that were drilled into it. The decklid appears to be original to the car as it has the same teal/aqua color paint on both. The only thing I could think that the holes were for were maybe for a power top possibly? I don't see any other signs of it ever having a power top.

    Anyone else have any ideas?

All decklids had the mount boss and the 3 holes for the decklid lift cylinder, which was mounted in the trunk. This mount boss feature was there whether the car had the optional top, or not.

There was also a triangular nut plate for the 3 bolts. Notice the rivets that hold it.

I believe all 56-60 had the extra boss. In 61-62, only power top cars did. A 61-2 lid with the 3rd boss is extremely difficult to find.

Mike, Thanks for clarifying. I forgot about those later cars.

I recall the bosses were there on 61/62. I think they were missing the nutplates unless power top was fitted, correct?

Here's my badly damaged 62 lid when I got the car. The boss is there but no holes or nutplate for the lift cylinder.

This is what the lift cylinder bracket looks like.
