    Guys,

I have to assume the reference to the armor presence on small block cars is based on multiple observations by some members of the JG revision team of the armor on unrestored, small block cars.

Yes, exactly. That information in the big block RPO's is part of the reason I provided the information I stated in my previous posts. Of course, we don't know, for sure, if these rear brake pipe assemblies are, in fact, the difference implied by the "brake lines" reference on the big block RPO's. However, I am virtually certain that these rear brake pipe assemblies are at least part of, and likely the only, brake line differences from standard configuration to big block.
Thank you both so much. I think this is just about as close as we can get to a definitive answer at this point in time. Hopefully the judging guides will be updated in future editions.

As another informational point about that rear brake line, the ‘66 TIM&JG states: “A steel spring armor may be present on Small Block cars, and should be present on Big Block cars (to protect from the moving sway bar linkage).”

        Gary------

The flaw in the theory that the rear sway bar was the reason for the big block armored rear brake pipe assemblies is that 1975-82 Corvettes, all, of course, with small blocks, with FE-7 suspension also were equipped with a rear stabilizer bar which mounted identically to the 1965-74 big block bars. As far as I can determine, those applications all used the standard 1966-74 GM #3879235/6 rear brake pipe assemblies. So, if the reason for the armored rear brake pipe assemblies was the possible rear sway bar interference, why don't the FE-2 cars use the different rear pipe assemblies?

This is just another reason why it would be nice to hear from owners of original 1975-82 models, with and without FE-2 suspension.
