well guys i'm stumped. i'm trying to chase down a clunking sound i hear intermittently when i hit some bumps. coming from right rear area. i've got more friction tape and pieces of rubber in my trunk electronics bay to choke a horse. i'm thinking the threaded insert in the leaf has come loose. that would allow the end of the leaf to do weird things. my idea was to put a washer and nylock nut on the threads of the ride height bolt just snug and see if i still have my clunk. any thoughts and ideas would be greatly appreciated...i'm all ears.. thanks !

Steve, Standard rear suspension or Z51?
I'd suspect the rear swaybar end link on that side is the culprit. It's a common failure point. They cannot be lubricated and wear easily.
Remove the nuts from both sides holding them to the A-Frame or Bar. You need a Torx bit or Allen wrench to hold the bolt to remove the nuts as the design changed over time. It's tight to get tools in there so it'll take some effort.
Pull the bar down and tie it off along to keep it from hitting anything and try a low speed bumpy road test.
When you get them detached, wiggle them at the joint and you may find looseness. If so, time for new.
I replaced all 4 swaybar endlinks due to the same noise on bumpy roads.

T40 Torx bit on my '07 originals. Replacements may be Allen or Hex.

It may also be the strut end rod joints, but not common.

Steve,
All have a rear sway bar. Just different diameters based on FE1/FE2(Soft ride), Z51, or Z06.
Edit... Unless that changed after'07.
