TCI Global in Las Vegas. Send them an original sample and they will custom match it for $60. Their mixes from codes can be off a bit so recommend sending the sample to match.

Thanks, that’s the option we’re testing. I was hoping someone had something old on the shelf!

Anyone know the shelf life of this stuff.

        David,
Reason I ask is my now red 69 was originally Cortez Silver which I want to take it back to but am probably 2 years away from getting to paint. Maybe a combined order might benefit us.

You may want to inquire however Last I checked Global will not sell you any alternate toners to tint the color they sell you.
I did a color match to original Cortez a few years ago.

I may not describe this very clearly, however this is my route to color matched lacquer, on which I did consult the Dupont Jobber.

I have my local jobber (Finish Masters)scan the large chip out of my requisite dealer album - mix a half pint - ONLY the color toners- LEAVE THE new B/C binders out (last 2 items and largest by volume) the color will BARELY cover the bottom of the can- I then add half a pint of lacquer clear coat to the color - then I do spray outs and adjust with different toners as required CHECKING the direct as well as a 45 deg side shift.

I ran my idea for "making" Lacquer using new tints and lacquer clear coat by my paint supplier - the guy who has been mixing my paint since the late 1970's. I said if you leave out the BC binders the toners are the same correct? I just add it to Lacquer clear coat, HE said, that will work, I can't beleive I had never thought about that... but you know we cannot warranty it.
Using a frankenstein mix to touch up 50+ year old checked original paint, a product warranty would be laughable.

Going this route. - MAKE SURE TO TELL THEM to only mix the color toners, leave all the binders out.

That's really interesting James. In this case (as I'm sure many others), are you having to substitute the metallic toner? I am driving at how fine the metallic is along with the elimination of any pearls. Your method certainly makes sense to me.

I'm dropping a good bit of the metallic - like 25%, then lightening elsewhere, I have it mixed to the scan using the original formula THEN dropping between 18-27% of the metal flake. Easier to drop 30% and get the "stock flake" then go from there.
If you get it close colorwise and it's just off on the side shift or off on the direct there are lightening direct/darkening side shift, these are not pearls they are matching metalflake.
Back in the mixingroom they have a large chart with all the different combos for what the flake does.

I use a tenth gram scale and pour off half oz's then begin adding first a tenth gram then mix up and compare to paint in can and match then decide a few tenths or a few grams once it appears correct, SPRAY OUT and check using a matching lamp- GO from there.

I ran into the pearls and crap when someone brought me a 66 TrophyBlue car with some paint which was "correct".
It was a new color "match" to a color scan. All kinds of new stuff in there, no way to make it blend.
