    Tri-Power Air Cleaner Base finish

The 67 judging guide specifies gloss black as the the correct finished for the air cleaner bases. I have 2 original tri-power air cleaner assemblies being restored and the question about the base finish (luster) came up. I wouldn't describe the finish shown in the photos in the judging guide or on the actual base as "glossy" and I know that the term is very subjective.

Looking for a real world opinion on what paint should be used for the base.

Also, where the bases originally dipped or sprayed.

I believe the gloss level on the air cleaner bases was an 8 out of 10. Even after being exposed to the engine heat for 50+ years original bases still exhibit a high gloss level. Similar gloss to the voltage regulator cover. Spray paint the bases semi-gloss to gloss black and you would likely be fine for judging.

Right on. Bought a gloss meter for some other purposes.
