69 Conv Rear Carpet, No Astro, Use Plugs?

    Hi everyone,

Using TIMJG 6th Edition and have searched here but still have question regarding rear carpet. Have 69 convertible with A/C so rear Astro has block off plates. Looking at TIMJG Fig 1.2.9 I can see the carpet comes up to the lower edge of the block off plates. My car is serial # 13xxx so according to TIMJG should use the 3 rubber plugs at the rear. Double-checking the use of the plugs since they can't be seen in that particular figure and their use is going to require the carpet to bend significantly to then wrap out and around the area containing the block off plates. Want to be sure the plugs are still used in this situation before I cut holes for them.

I read how the aftermarket carpet is less flexible than original carpet so perhaps that's part of my hesitation but also, from looking at that figure, the carpet does not seem to be "creased" around that area to the extent required if using plugs. Of course, could be this is a car with serial # less than 11000 that does not use rubber plugs regardless.

    Thanks.

I might be able to get a picture of it for you. But... I won't be home until Sunday.

That'd be great Gary, much appreciated! Based on that sounds like a 69 Convertible with A/C, SN >= 11000, does use the three rubber plugs in the rear?

If you originally had plugs, wouldn't there be three holes drilled into the rear tub to accept the plugs and lock them in place with the carpet. Does your car have the holes to accept the plugs?

Yeah, it does have the holes. But they could be there in all cars but not used when the car has A/C, and therefore no rear Astro Ventilation gear. Seems unlikely but based on all the hand cutting done on the rear carpet when Astro Ventilation is present nothing would surprise me.

Gary checked a couple of cars for me but they were not A/C cars. Thanks again for the effort Gary.
I posted same question on the NCRS Facebook group but no response thus far. Seems likely that the rubber plugs were used regardless of whether the Astro gear was mounted in the rear so that's what I'm going with unless I hear otherwise soon.

Here's a 1972 with A/C and original deluxe carpet. 1969 may be very different?
