Re: 1963 Gas Overflow Boot nipple
The example on the left is definitely the 1964+ nipple. So, that means the one on the right has to be the 1963-only.
However, the difference seems rather moot to me as I do not see how the difference could be discerned without "seriously disturbing" the boot mounted on the car.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 1963 Gas Overflow Boot nipple
This is great. From what Bob and others have said the original boot that goes along with the smaller original 63 nipple is a different design than what is currently being reproduced. Hopefully Bob can find his and take some measurements. I think it would also be fruitful to post a picture of the boot if anyone has one.- Top

I feel pretty confident that the seal (boot) currently reproduced is the 64-67 GM #3849612 which after 1965 was also GM SERVICE for 1963. It might be difficult for restoration sources to justify the cost of reproduction of the 63-only seal considering the limited market. But, if anyone could do it I'd say it would be Dr. Rebuild. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 1963 Gas Overflow Boot nipple
100% correct. The ID of the nipple is easy to spot with a casual glance.
Those nipples and hoses were frequently removed from 63s when the boot filled with water.
An ant would have a hard time fitting inside.
On the same subject, most old timers could never agree on the hose lettering or if it had lettering at all.
My pal the late Mike Hanson and I never owned a 63 hose with ribs....... like later years.- Top
