1956/1957 Muffler Heat Shields

On the 56 and 57 there are two rectangular heat shields mounted on the underbody under where the fuel tank is located. They are aluminium but looks like they were painted semi gloss black originally. They might be on all C1,s but not sure. Can anyone confirm the finish on them.

My late 56 aluminum heat shields were not painted.
