    1972 LT1 radiator

Does the 72 LT1 have the same radiator as the big block car? The part number I am finding is 3019190 for the big block.

I will call. but I do not find a specific reproduction radiator for this application on the DeWitt website.

    Thanks,

    Don

Don- The LT-1 radiator is not the same as a big block. It looks similar but it is a little smaller. I think it the same as the small block with A/C. I will measure the width of a 70 LT-1 radiator when I go to my garage.

FYI, DeWitt does not make a reproduction of this radiator, so you can stop looking.

Your best bet is to have your original recored, using the original end tanks and upper and lower plates.

          Re: 1972 LT1 radiator

Thanks, that's what I was finding that DeWitt does not make a reproduction. Does anyone know of a place to have one recored?

I believe DeWitt did at one time, but no longer does this.

I think this original radiator is pretty rotten inside. We were removing the fan shroud to be able to get the upper A arms out and scraped the radiator and it sprung a leak. We then pulled the radiator out, took it to a local radiator shop and they patched, and pressure tested. We reinstalled the radiator and now it has another leak.

This C3 radiator is much harder to remove/install that a C2. It has been a real pain. We must have somehow damaged it again trying to get it and the fan shroud back in.

          Thanks,
          Don

                Thanks Ray,

I just found the correct part number in another thread, as you stated, 3018803.

We could removed this one and have it soldered again, but I just don't trust that I will hold up.

                I am in Northern Virginia.

Yes, the GM #3018803 is the radiator without the transmission oil cooler and was used in PRODUCTION for non auto trans applications. It was also available in SERVICE but only until June, 1974 when it was discontinued and replaced, for SERVICE, by the 3018802, the radiiator used in PRODUCTION for auto trans-equipped cars. GM often did this with non-auto trans radiators.

I have had a few recored locally and recommended the place to a number of people who have sent their rads for recore, the guy will dolly and dents, reuse your rails and tanks, extremely good, last 3 were $600each.
Remember your original pass side tank is dated.
Here is my original off of 21783- F1 - June 1971.
Couple of ribs up from the RAD TAG, in the bottom of the photo you can see the M on the rad tag.

                        Don,
Just to further clarify your comment: "The original production radiator in my LT-1 is marked MK and does not have the oil cooler fittings"

My '71 &LT1 original production radiator (#3018803) broadcast tag is stamped with MK9 and has the radiator part number 3018803 stamped on it also. (I owned my &LT1 since day one).

DeWitt’s never made a correct reproduction of the 26” and 27.5” copper radiators, but they do make correct cores/top plates for both. You’ll need the end tanks from an original Harrison radiator and have a competent radiator shop put them together.

                            Stan,

                            Do they still make these?
I was under the impression they had stopped making them several years ago.
They’re not listed on the website any more.

                              Patrick,

They are not listed, but I purchased one about a year ago. I know that they make both because they shipped the wrong one initially, but DeWitt’s handled it, no problem. Sent me the correct one and I shipped the other back to them. I haven’t gotten to the point of having it assembled yet, but that will happen soon enough.
