1962 rear emblem backing plate

The 61-62 judging guide states that the backing plate behind the rear emblem on the trunk lid is glossy black, and that its backside (I assume trunk side) is gloss black.

The piece on the car here is stain black, and the reproduction part that is sold is also satin black.

Are the parts on the car and the ones sold by the catalogs incorrect, or is the JG description incorrect?

They came as a low-grade low-sheen gloss black, and could be described as satin black very easily.

We’re ordering a new one since this one is dented, but wanted to know if it had to be repainted as well.
