    Polarizing generator - question

Working on a '58 and installing a generator that was rebuild years ago.

Paperwork states to "polarize" the generator before running the engine. And to jumper between gen.+ and batt.+ terminals at the voltage regulator.

I am assuming I need to have the battery connected, but wanted to be sure.

    Thanks in advance, Dan

    Re: Polarizing generator - question

    Hi Dan
To polarize a generator, momentarily connect a jumper lead between the regulator BATTERY and GENERATOR/ ARMATURE terminals after all leads have been connected, but before the engine is started. The battery is connected.
Momentarily means just long enough to get a spark. Do NOT do this with field terminal.
The 1955 service bulletin for those model 1119000 series generators has great rebuilding and adjustment information. Send your email if you are interested.

"that was rebuild years ago" you mean half a century ago? Making progress!
