Tired of the Magnaflow drone at 1,500-1,600 rpm (bought the car a year ago with the aftermarket exhaust). I am looking to replace just the mufflers with a good used oem set. Confusion on my part trying to identify the correct part number before buying a set online. Can anyone direct me to a source for the correct numbers, left and right? Also, does anyone have a set for sale. Love this C5, my first Corvette. Thanks in advance for assistance... Dave

Well, you are making the right move. Aftermarket exhaust is something I have no use for, at all.
The GM mufflers for your application which included a portion of the exhaust pipe were as follows:
left side----GM #88895881
right side---GM #88895880
They are both GM-discontinued. In addition, I do not know if these numbers actually appear on the mufflers. I think there is a good chance that they will but I do not know that.
By the way, there should be lots of used examples of these mufflers around, the cast-offs from the fools that replaced their originals with aftermarket. I can recall being at Corvettes At Carlisle and seeing the on-site exhaust replacement shops with HUGE piles of the exhaust systems they removed and replaced with some ridiculous, loud aftermarket exhaust. Never could understand that, at all. To me, the really good exhaust were the ones in those piles and not the ones that got installed on the cars.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 2002 Corvette base Coupe Mufflers
Joe, thanks, exactly what I need. I did find three different sets of part numbers, thus the confusion. You confirm one set and that is what I will look for. Yes, not certain number is on the muffler. Looking at a friend's 2002 base C5 today to take pictures and look eom mufflers. Yes, I was at Carlisle this year and saw, I think that it was Borla, with two lifts upgrading C8 exhaust. A big pile of the oem removals, some with the owner information so that they could be returned, others with no information. They lowered a just replaced exhaust C8, fired it up, no way, my ears hurt! I know that these axel back mufflers are all over the place. Have found two sets in Alabama, 7 hour drive, not shipping, around $100-$200/set. I will keep looking. Thank you so much for confirming the correct part numbers... Dave- Top

By the way, the numbers I provided above were the original and last available part numbers; there was never a supercession as far as I can find.
Imagine, folks removing these mufflers from their cars to install some bogus, loud aftermarket mufflers! CRAZY!In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 2002 Corvette base Coupe Mufflers
Joe,
The muffler part numbers you provided are as you suggest, titanium. However, the titanium muffler is for the Z06. I do find some parts houses suggesting your numbers as the correct replacement. However, using the VIN and digging deeper, am told these do not fit my car. The base muffler is stainless steel.
Checked out a friends 2002 C5 base coupe, just like mine, and both stock mufflers have #10320468. How can they have the same number? The mystery continues. I am going to visit our local Chevy dealer (biggest Corvette dealer in Missouri and with certified Corvette mechanic who has been quite helpful) parts department and ask them if they can shed light on this question.
I just want a decent used OEM to get ride of the drone Magnaflows. Thanks for your help, I will let you know when I finally resolve this question...

The part numbers I mentioned are for the 2002 Z06. As a matter of fact, I always thought that it was only the Z06 that had the titanium mufflers but when I got to checking it appeared to me all 2002 had the same mufflers. I was in error. As I originally thought, only the Z06 had the titanium mufflers. The non Z06 were as follows and were stainless steel:
GM #88895880-----left side
GM #88895881-----right side
The above part numbers were the same from 2002 to the time they were discontinued without supercession.
As far as why both the left and right side mufflers have the same embossed part number, it's like this: the muffler component of the above referenced assemblies is the same. It's only when the exhaust pipe and other components of the assembly are added that the resulting assemblies become side-specific. This same thing is true of most Corvette muffler assemblies going back to at least the 60's. The muffler component of the assemblies was never available in SERVICE or, even, used in PRODUCTION. The assemblies were fabricated by the exhaust system manufacturer.
I will correct the part numbers I provided in my first post.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 2002 Corvette base Coupe Mufflers
Joe,
Got it, no problem. These new numbers are do match a couple of other sources that I have found. Why is this so difficult? Glad I don't have a C2, I can imagine the questions those parts raise! I am going to go with you numbers. By the way, where do you validate these?
Thanks...

Wes, thanks! I am in St. Louis MO. We will not be down that way anytime in the near future so shipping is necessary. Please let me know what you find regarding part numbers. Have a great weekend... Dave- Top

Hi David,
I have a few sets of used mufflers in St. Charles and I live in Chesterfield (could bring a set home if pickup from their is more convenient.)

Re: 2002 Corvette base Coupe Mufflers
Thanks all for the input. I did find a OEM base set here in our area, $175 and in great shape. Much happier now with refined, quality sound and no drone rather than the "hot rod" sound (that was desirable in my youth). Now a real please to drive. The old MagnaFlows I removed are in excellent shape and I have several potential buyers lined up, FaceBook Marketplace. Again, thanks all...- Top

Re: 2002 Corvette base Coupe Mufflers
Joe, ha! My sentiments exactly. Love the refined sound of the OEM. A couple of potential buyers have asked, "how loud are they." I say too loud for my 74 year old ears, not loud enough for my past 17 year old ears. One person responded that he is 44. I said, just right for you! Thanks for the great response... Dave- Top
