    Grease For C2 Window Regulator

I have the side window regulator out of my 67 coupe. Except for being almost stuck from 50+ year grease, otherwise it is in good shape. I used brake cleaner to clean it up including the pinion and sector gear cavity. There is a 1/4" hole at the rear of the cavity that I think I can get some white grease in there to last another 50 yeasr? I'm wondering how to handle the lube on the 3 rollers and the upper & lower slides? Should I just oil the rollers or do I need to put a light film of grease on the slides themselves? I think the rollers should just role without touching the slides?

As long as you have it apart, I'd recommend replacing the coil spring, especially if it is rusty. My window used to make a "clunking" noise as it went up and down. I attempted to grease it but that didn't solve the problem. I installed a new spring which solved the problem.

I recommend NLGI 2 for the rollers and tracks- it's thick enough to not run off. EP chassis grease will work fine; I use lithium based for regulators and latches since it's moisture resistant. Motor oil works well for the pivots and joints. Be sure to remove the old grease and clean it thoroughly first.

The spring looks very good ... no rust at all. I will put a few drops of oil into it so that it slides against itself nicely. The main problem was hardened grease within the gear mesh. There was migrated grease in other areas that I actually had to use a chisel to remove!

John - I'm starting in on the same repair. Just got the new Bigblock fired up in my 65 L78 Roadster and since just about everything else has been addressed, I knew it was time to get to the passenger side door Power Window setup. The latch and lock mechanisms were moving like Molasses and while the window rolled up and down quite well, it got pulled all apart today. The rollers and guide channels were bone dry...other than the decades old grease. Even the wiring harness plug to the motor was showing it's age as it was super-brittle and broke apart while trying to remove it. I have an old plastic plug replacement for that one. Time for a good cleaning and then greasing. I like to use Brake Clean followed by some white lithium grease but I might give the rollers a bit of a bath in some WD-40 first since it might be difficult to get the grease into the roller.IMG_5608.jpgIMG_5606.jpgIMG_5613.jpg

I use Black Pearl open face hitack grease for the gear boxes and lubriplate for the tracks.
Most people do not get the chunky stuff out of the pinion box and then replace it...

For PV, is there a time standard for PW? How slow is too slow?

AS far as I know there is not a time standard, though I could see if it were variations in motor speed - ie motor dragging - causing a fail.
