    Re: 66 327/350 carb question

Rich, If that's the case then either the gasket was dried and not sealing to the main body or the metering block has warped from the heat/cool cycles.

I don't know how an engine with a idle speed of approx 650 can spill fuel out of a booster nozzle. Float level, pump pressure could cause this but it's venturi vacuum caused by air flow that pulls fuel from the nozzle. it is a good idea to every now and then clean the air bleeds with some carb cleaner but watch your eyes. The biggest problem with these Holley's is the gasket surfaces not sealing because of the cheap metal and surface warping causing air and fuel leaks.

      Thanks Tim
One of suggestions I got earlier on this thread talked about restrictions in the idle air circuit combined with a YouTube video I watched on the idle circuit in the Holley indicated that could cause the idle stop to be set higher to keep the car running. That in turn could cause the drip. Who knows? Fuel pressure was checked ok according to the mechanic doing the work and the float level was set and verified first by the rebuilder and then by the mechanic. When he noticed the drip he lowered the float with no effect.

Even though this carb was freshly rebuilt, it still exhibited the property that the emulsion screw (idle mixture) on the left side of the carb had no effect until screwed all in. It works properly now. So, all indications are there was something wrong with that metering block. The gasket was new but as you point out it could have been warped or has a passage blocked by corrosion or debris. Anyway, for me carburetors are a black art which I wish to stay clear of beyond spraying carb cleaner (with eye protection) :-)
