    C6 Park/Turn Lamp bulb replacement

If you ever get a blown front Park/Turn bulb, be prepared for a fun time. These also act as a DRL(Daylight Running Light), effectively only front park lamps on and rear reds off.

To access these bulbs you need to remove a cover plate in the front wheel well in front of the tire. This is just behind the headlight assembly. You could jack the car up, add a safety stand, then reach over the tire. Other option is to jack it up and remove the wheel, but unnecessary.

I opted to just jack it up at the sway bar frame mount with my electric jack. I added some wooden blocks under the frame just to the rear of the right front wheel, normally where you'd place the "hocky puck" jacking spacer at the oval hole in the frame. This was done for safety as my hands were going in above the tire. If the jack were to fail without the safety blocks in place, the result would be crushed hands and arms.

Jack under the sway bar mount.

I did this in the house garage as my shop is now filled with nothing but JD Green landscaping stuff. All my old Corvettes are gone and the C6 rests next to the other daily driver. I could have driven it out back and put it on the lift but it was early morning and the bride was sleeping.

I keep this electric jack in the car for emergencies on the road but it came in handy. I blocked the rear wheels and set the E-Brake. The jack pad fit under the sway bar frame mount perfectly.

It gave me plenty of room to reach above the tire.

Remove the 6 plastic clips for the soft cover flap using a flat blade screwdriver on the slotted edge and some needle nose pliers or side cutters(softly) to remove the body. If you're not familiar with these clips the photo of one is below.

When the cover is off you'll see the bulb socket. Push that lock tab(at 4 oclock) and rotate CCW to remove it.

Pull the bulb out. They can be tight so best to pry the bulb base away from the socket. It helps to use a screwdriver. Here's what the socket looks like and the bulb type. Old one below. I chose the NAPA 5702AKN replacement. GM retails $14, online around $9, Napa retail around $7. I get them for around $3.

I also had a side marker bulb blown. These are the small bayonet type. NAPA 17177-N
To access these you have to remove more wheel well clips. There are 4 shiny ones in the outer edge of the well. You can see one on the right here just below that body seam. Also remove a few more, inside along the front edge near the cover you removed earlier. Now you can pull the well away from the body to access the marker.

Here's the view with the well pulled away. There's a wiring plug which is pushed onto the bulb socket. No need to pull the plug. Simply push and twist the semi rounded socket CCW where it attaches to the marker housing and the socket will come off and the bulb will be accessible. Pull out the old bulb and push in the new. Reinsert the holder and twist CW.

Test your new bulbs before you replace all of the covers and plugs and pieces you took apart .

Lower the car down and you're done.

    Richard,
    From the Corvette Forum,
Turn front wheel away from you..remove 5 screws..reach in, easy reach.
    Hope that works for you.

Pete I read that one yesterday, and it might work for very thin arms, but its really still tight in there doing that with my arms. Plus my arms get scratched up very easily these days.

Besides, my wife was sleeping as it was about 5 AM and I'd have to start the car up.

But I'll try that later and take a photo of how it looks in there.
