1966 Wiper blades/ Form vs Function

I am ready to reinstall the wiper arms on my 66. I have the handy install tool, and I have read all the post on the adjustment screw, as well as left under right etc. etc. etc.

What has varied from post to post is the proper positioning of the left one anywhere from as close to the window trim as possible, to 2 inches above. Then the right should be as close as possible to the left one, or 2 inches above that.

I realize that the "As close as possible "configuration looks the best, while the 2 and 4 inches apart probably functions the best. I read several posts where the wipers were catching each other when using them, and I assume that the tight position is the main culprit.

So, my question is: how close to the "as close as possible " configuration has anyone come and still had them work properly.
I like most of you don't really anticipate ever having to use them, but you never know!

    Jim,
During judging, no deducts or notations on this placement.

What an appropriately timed posting titled "St Louis Assembly line 1965". It appears attaching the wipers as the factory did, means almost anywhere you want! Observe the red cars wiper placement, then observe the black car behind it! I guess I will not be all that concerned with the inches involved in the exact spacing.

          Jim,
The driver's side wiper arm sits about 1" above the polished windshield molding and the passenger side sits about 1" above the driver's side. No interference when operating them.

Jack-Are those factory documents laying on top of the driver's dash pad?

Hard to tell EJ... this is about as far as I can zoom in, before the image pixelates too much.
It could be the secret directions to where all the Corvette build sheets were stored.
