Best/Easiest Way To Remove C2(66) exhaust heat rise Valve

A future job for my 66 L72 Side Pipe Convertible is not one I look forward to. Here goes>

The flapper in it rubs somewhere inside of the unit. For right now I have it "wired" in the open
position. Works well and not too noticeable. But to fix it correctly I will have to remove it and
then I will take out the flapper. Want to do this> this way rather than put in a spacer.
I suspect I will have to remove either parts on the top of it.(Exhaust Manifold) or the bottom
parts(Loosen Up the side pipes) to make space for removal. I do not think(but not know for sure)
that I will not have enough clearance just by removing the heat rise nuts and drop the pipes. Is
this correct? If not which I suspect; which way is the easiest/best way on the above two suggestions?
    Thanks In Advance>Larry

Remove the nuts on the heat riser/manilfold. Loosen the rear bracket on the side pipe. Drop the pipe, remove the heat riser.

Larry - Stephen is on the money, on a side exhaust car it'll be an easy job...one of the few, it seems ;-).
Here's a pic of the side exhaust to heat riser area of my 65 Bigblock Roadster, same configuration as a 66 Bigblock.
This is an 'as-found' pic, the loose stud nuts caused a loud exhaust leak.

Finally got it done; thanks to Mike and Stephen. Not too bad of job even though
I do not have a car lift; so kinda tight underneath. Used the Dremel to grind off
the flapper. (See Below) Now will do some touch up on the chassis and put some
calyx on the manifolds now that I have a chance. Thanks Again>Larry P.S. Engine
Now Runs great; so much difference.
