    1962 Carter 3191S identification stamp

Per the Judging Guide, carburetors in 1962 should have their ID stamped on the right front of the carburetor base. Pictures are shown in the manual using other HP engines as examples, but not a 250hp.

I'm working on a 250hp 4-speed car with a high likelihood of having its original carburetor.
Like what is shown in the picture (taken from eBay) there is no ID stamp on the front of the carb base as there are on 300 and 340hp carbs.

Do base 250hp carbs have a stamp in a different location? Or do they not have any ID stamp?
Or do the carb on this car and the one on eBay both have replacement bases? That would seem unusual.

    Thanks.

    Pat,

I suspect you are looking at the wrong section in the judging guide. The 62 250 HP came with a WCFB carburetor, not a AFB.

The AFB has stampings on passenger's side (right), while the WCFB main body has stamping above the left front manifold stud.

See photo M-6-3 as an example and read the description on page 138.

      Thanks Dennis.

I looked all over the carb base and didn't see anything, but will check that picture when I'm next at the car.
It has to be sent out for a restoration, and the owner doesn't want to waste time and money on the incorrect carburetor.

Besides the photo I mentioned, photos M-6-4, M-6-5, & M-6-6 apply to the WCFB, although they are not all about ID numbers.

Also, the chart on page 137 lists all of the numbers in one handy location, for all of the carbs.

I saw the chart, and it has the original tag still in place.

Unfortunately it will be several days until I'm back there, but I'll have the owner look.
