    1963 AM Radio Static

I am getting the "ticking" static when driving and using the turn signal as well as when I touch the brakes so I replaced the original capacitor by the coil with a new (NOS) one but static is still there. Next step is to replace the capacitor by the ignition switch but I have also noticed that when I hit a good enough bump in the road, I get the same type of static. Any ideas on that one? I do not have the spark plug ignition shielding installed on the driver side nor the top ignition shielding. I realized the car will not be ready for the Frisco Regional Meet so taking one thing at a time (and there are a lot of one things).

    Thanks in Advance.

Fredrick, you will not fix anything until you get all the ignition shielding on. When you do that, you might find that the static and popping noises are gone.

Capacitors such as the one shown are available, but not in waxed paper Some people (not me) have melted the wax off, opened the end, stuffed in a new modern day capacitor and re-waxed the original paper.

But fix the shielding and you may not have to do anything else. If you still have some popping, then replace capacitors one at a time. Initially just hay-wire in a new one to see if it improves or eliminates it.

Oh my - that's amazing. Yeah, I don't think NAPA is going to have that one.
