      Bob,

Have you reviewed these two threads on that topic from 2021 and 2023?

Why would you/anyone use anything other than a MOOG or Spicer UJoint? The best UJoints you can buy!!

                Joe,

Let me preface the answer by saying I have high-quality U-joints, with indentations on the end caps, on my ‘66, comparable to the ones you mention. I’m not going to switch and I am not in search of flat end cap U-joints. But the short answer to your question is: 1 point. That is the originality deduction some judges are taking for U-joints with indentations in the end caps. That deduction is taken in spite of the fact that I don’t believe those judges can defend a 1-point deduction based on the math using CDCIF, as has been discussed in the archives. I can’t explain the thinking of those judges. But I can understand why some owners want to go the extra mile. That’s not for me in the case of U-joints.

Additionally, 60 years of continuous improvement engineering has yielded a better design...Spicer.
USA made Spicer is the only brand I will install in a driven vehicle.

I wouldn't jump up and down on the current Moog products , in the last few years i don't see much difference in quality between moog and the stuff the chain parts sell under their own brand made in china, and i see it every day as i still work as a tech

Re: Looking for correct halfshaft ujoints for a C2

Agreed Bob. Steer clear of all inferior chineasium junk ail all costs. Especially chassis & drivetrain components.
Its not worth it for several reasons, big one being safety. Two, how many times do you want to do the same job.
Dont step over a dollar to save a dime.

All we have to do is a little searching to find USA made parts...for most things.

Wheel bearings fit this subject. USA made bearings are only a few dollars more. Yet the big box places will always direct you to that option first. (I call them Big Box House of China....insert your favorite name...auto parts home improvement, they're all the same...junk).

BDI Bearings for bearings...ASK for USA

I go directly to Spicer or an authorized Spicer dealer/distributor for all light and heavy duty applications.
Trust Spicer u-joints to provide performance that’s as good as or better than your OE parts. Spicer universal joints consistently outperform the competition, offering durability and dependability.

Gary, you hit the nail on the head! Those judges who will take a point for that item have lost their vision of the big picture. They are micro focused on that tiny detail. Anyway, along with that, as an owner why would we be worried about a single point deduction for the sake of SAFETY. Put quality parts on your Corvette where safety and reliability is necessary. Unless your plan is to just drive from the trailer to the show field.

                            Joe------

I TOTALLY agree. If anyone has ever seen the damage to the underbody of a Corvette when one of these things break, they would understand, too. So, while the body configuration of this u-joint is very different from original u-joints, it is the way to go. It is non-greaseable as was the original u-joint

The Dana-Spicer 51350XP is the absolute best half shaft u-joint available and the only thing I would use even though I have many NOS u-joints of the original part number [none for sale]. Here's a curious thing, though: this u-joint can be purchased for about $30 from many sources. The GM u-joint, currently GM #89059111, carries a current GM list price of $253.30. As far as I can tell, it is EXACTLY the same as the 51350XP. As some of you may know, it is very rare for me to equate any aftermarket part with an OEM GM part, especially when there is a huge difference in price. However, in this rare case, I believe these u-joints are exactly the same.
