    69 Console Reinforcement Rivet Size

Can anyone tell me the diameter and grip length of the console reinforcement rivet #3828470 for a 69? I tried 3/16" diameter with 1/8" grip length but I don't think that's correct. Holes can take up to 13/64" diameter and I'm thinking the grip length should be greater than 1/8".
    Thanks.

    Jack,

I've done this repair with a couple of consoles, but I can't tell you the rivet size. I just select the size from my rivet kit that works. It's common for the console to crack or even break around the holes, so inspect carefully and repair as needed. When installed there's some stress on these points so make sure it's strong.

The holes were hogged out (is that a word?) on one console, so that had to be addressed too.

Thanks Mark. Unfortunately my original console is gone and I had a plastic repro so replaced with one from Top Flight. You have to attach the reinforcement to it yourself. I tested some other rivets and think I have one that will work.

On a separate note, would rather have an original shift console (black) is you happen to have one or know someone that does .

The repro consoles I've seen look authentic except for color (at least for light beige). What's the issue with your black repro?

Is see used ones on eBay periodically. You might contact the guy who advertises in Driveline (Sokoloski?) and Gulf Coast Corvette. They both have salvage cars and parts.

Any suggestions on a rivet kit?

Actually it is pretty nice. My only concern was the sheen looked like non-buffed shoe polish and didn't match the dash. I took some good vinyl dressing to it and it looks better now. I did originally check with David S. but no luck.

Not specifically but use aluminum for interior work. Amazon and probably Harbor Freight have a selection.

You're lucky it's a black interior. MUCH easier to restore. The Light Saddle in my '70 drove me nuts.
