    Follow up on lock mechanism

I got the replacement spring for the '69 lock mechanism and made the repair. Now I want to lubricate the mechanism before I re install it in the door. Any advise as to the type of lubricant/grease to use and where to put it? Any help is greatly appreciated.

The factory used white lithium grease. That is what I have used when repairing and reinstalling as well.

Differing opinion from Patrick. I use synthetic bearing grease...a little bit goes a long way. I agree with Patrick that the factory used white lithium grease but it has been my experience that over the years, it dries out and gunks up whatever it was originally intended to lubricate.

Yup. For that reason, I prefer synthetic grease as well. Unless it can be seen during judging, like on the male & female hood catches. Then I use white lithium to make the judges happy.

Thanks for the advise. I was planning on using white lithium grease in a spray so as to penetrate into the workings of the mechanism. I will look into a synthetic grease also.

            Jeff,

Use CRC Stay Lube for door locks and many other things.
