    How to Raise Gas Pedal

I'm in the early stages of adding peel and stick insulation, and then new carpet to my 69. The bottom edge of the gas pedal is almost touching the bare floor. I'm sure it will touch the new carpet when done. It appears that the entire pedal could be raised if I add a short spacer as illustrated in the photo. I don't think this would interfere with throttle function. Or, is there another way to "adjust" the pedal position?
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Michael,

I installed 1/2" DynaPad over Dynamat on my '70 and didn't have a clearance issue at the bottom of the pedal, so something is arwy.

Is the cable installed and adjusted properly? Is the pedal lever bent (it's very stout so inlikely)? From a safety standpoint, I would avoid modifying the cable ends or length... find the problem instead. I'm away from home, but maybe someone can share the normal clearance for the bottom of the pedal.

With Dynamat installed, there was a clearance issue between the tunnel and right edge of the pedal. I had to remove insulation in that area, and also some sections of the tunnel for the console to fit.

The good news is the Dynamat and Dynapad work great. Floorboards and console went from unbearably hot to the touch to barely above ambient temperature.

The carpet is now very "cushy". I like it but not not Flight judging friendly. In hindsight, I would use 1/8" DynaPad over Dynamat.

Re: How to Raise Gas Pedal

Thanks for the reply Mark. I don't think the pedal rod or lever is bent. I've seen many posts on other forums from individuals having the same issue. The only common "solution" has been to bend the rod or the lever...with cautions to not break something. Some had a "fix" similar to my approach.

In the 69 AIM UPC 6 D3 is a page titled "Accelerator Control Adjustment" that addresses adjustment at the carb end of the cable. However, that page is stamped "CANCELED." Does that mean that this adjustment is no longer recommended? Regardless, I don't think that's my problem. I have the original style Q-Jet and cable and I'm confident that everything there is in its proper place.

You're right, adjusting cable position at the carb, although important, will not affect your issue with the pedal.

Has the floorboard been repaired or replaced? Maybe it's high. Or has the bracket's mounting on the cowl or the cowl itself been worked?

Fiberglass floor and all rods, brackets, etc. are original. Nothing looks out of shape. I don't remember any issues when I last drove the car...a long time ago.

Post a photo of the pedal and floor.

I put the tape and pencil in place to hopefully provide a better perspective of the pedal position. The pencil is not elevating the pedal.

That looks closer to the floor than I recall what mine looks like. If no one responds beforehand, I'll check my car when I return next week.

Somebody put the pedal to the metal! (Fiberglass....that is.)!
