    Hello;
    Is there a 7 1/2" version of the 1967 rear outer spring bolt ?

    Thank YOU
    Ray

    Not sure, Ray. Stock bolt is 6 3/8" and there is a 8" available to lower the ride height. I've never heard of a 7 1/2"...doesn't mean it's not out there somewhere.

      If you're talking about a GM-supplied bolt, the answer is no. Although there were several different supercessive part numbers over the years, GM always specified that they were 6-1/2" (actually, as measured, 6-5/16"). However, during the 1974-82 period there were several different length bolts used optionally in PRODUCTION to adjust rear ride height. None were ever available in SERVICE and I have no specs on them.

        In my previous post I neglected to comment on your mention of "4889982" in your thread title. I presume you are referring to a GM part number for the bolt and there was never a GM part number of such for the bolt. However, the last available GM part number for the bolt was GM #458982. Previous part numbers were GM #3831585 (the bolt originally used for 1963-72), GM #6271686, GM #338081, GM #351592, and, finally, GM #458982. Each of these was also supercessive to the previous. All of these bolts were "officially" 6-1/2" per GM.

        The GM #458982 is now discontinued without supercession.

        By the way, the GM #3831585 was zinc or cadmium plated, the GM #351592 was, unusually, bare, machined steel, I believe the GM #6271686 was black phosphate finished, and the GM #458982 was black phosphate finished. I have no idea what finish the GM #338081 was. ALL of the aforementioned were of GM 290M material grade identified by 5 radial lines on the head.

          Be careful using longer spring bolts. The spring's clearance with the ground and the tire sidewall is reduced, and the distance it extends below the wheel is increased. Not good things if there's a flat.

            Just a question off topic .. if you were to change rear spring bolts , and cushions would there be a deduction and how much . Thanks
