    early 68 (3/30/68) 327/350 Hp Jack storage

    So.....
Finally opened the Jack storage compartment on my 68. I was sorry to find it empty, just a few pieces of junk. I located a correct jack and handle dated A68 (Jan of 68). I just got it yesterday. I cleaned out the liner and noticed that there were no hooks for the spring to hold jack in place. AND. there were no holes to allow mounting the hooks. ???????

Any one have an early 68 they can send a pic ? or does one of you guys just know the answer?

there are 2 1/4" holes about 2" apart on each side of the tub ????? did something go in there maybe ?

I believe that this liner is original to the car so looking to find out about other early 68's

    thx
    Jim

Jim, I have a 69. That liner pulls out and the jack is secured underneath that liner. I think the two holes are to help pull the liner out to access the jack underneath. You should find the mounting points on the fiberglass tub once you pull the liner.

    Regards, John

          Morning John,

How the heck did you know ? I pulled out the liner and there it was in all it's glory. Original Jack,Handle and spring. Thank you so much for your help it was fun making the discovery.

So next question. It was really hard getting the liner out. Is there a special procedure. I read somewhere that 68 liners were different but mine looks like the standard C3 liner ?

Congratulations on your archeological find! I remember it being difficult to take the liner out as it is bigger than the storage compartment frame. There’s no secret, just patience. I don’t think it was meant to come out all that often. Obviously, only if you got a flat.

Interestingly, I thought the foil backed insulation was only for the battery compartment, because why would you care about keeping the jack insulated? I’ll check my 68-69 guide and see what it states.

            Great find! Happy to help.

            Regards, John
