      Re: Fakes, Re-stamps, false claims

      Thomas,

      A few thoughts-

Be patient and understand it may take months or years to find your car. There are not many legitimate 427/435 side-pipe convertibles in #1 condition with the colors/options you want for sale during the course of a year. It took me three years to find a #3 454 car I wanted.

Expand your network and let them know what you want. That's how private sales happen, and that's where the best cars trade hands. I agree auctions are a magnet for flipper cars with hidden issues.

Look for cars with a long-term owner, vintage photos, new car sale documentation, and a stack of records over its service life. These verify what the car itself tells you.

You sound like an educated buyer which will help you identify the fakes and flakes. Stay focused and hold on to your emotions when that seemingly perfect car shows up. Invite an NCRS buddy for the inspection.

Good luck, and be sure to post photos of the car you get.

Thomas one of the most fun / challenging aspects of this hobby is finding good real cars with history and documentation. As others have mentioned it take years to find the car you want.

Yes, very few of his cars actually list prices. LMC will also help locate cars if they don't have what you're looking for. Even though they have "contacts", I'm not sure they'll have better luck than you will, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

                  Good luck with your search.

THIS IS THE BEAUTY OF NCRS . I think it is no coinsidence there seem to be fewer 67 435's even claiming to be real than there used to be.
A good NCRS judge, armed with judging guide can most likely spot a fake. If you are willing to spend the big bucks I would absolutely
pay a professional Corvette specialist you trust to look at any car before you put cash down. I have learned the hard way, and I am a judge.
There are MANY guys that specialize in big buck 67.s. Ask around the NCRS guys in your area, they will know the honest pros.

                      Re: Fakes, Re-stamps, false claims

Thomas, I could go on for hours discussing this topic. Is your search limited to 427/435 horse cars or are you open to lower horsepower 427's? The main thing is to take your time and research the car you're looking at even at the risk of it getting away. Four out of five sidepipe big block 1967's you find online will be fake in one way or another. Are you open to a restamped motor? You didn't mention that. If so, only purchase one with verifiable paperwork as you don't know if it was born a small block. The best advice I can provide is to stay connected to folks in the hobby, a car such as the one you are looking for would probably sell before hitting the internet. Talk to NCRS members that know '67's and let them know you're looking for a specific car with certain options. If a seller won't answer questions or provide pictures of the pad, trim tag, VIN tag or paperwork, run away from the car. I search '67 big blocks on the internet most every day and the deceit is shocking.

In regards to what Joe Ray said, the Texas Manufacturing Plant is not closed, but on a very limited production schedule due to overwhelming demand! Seriously, take all the advice above--be patient and by all means if you are unsure, hire a professional to help evaluate the car.

                          HI Thomas,
Another easy check that you can do is to scroll down to the Orphan Parts Section. There are 16 pages of C2 vin related parts listed. They included small block engines, POP, window stickers, and other vin related items.

                              Mark,

On the opening NCRS page, don't click on Technical Discussion, but keep scrollong down to the bottom section of the main page. You will see the Orphan section.
