    58 Corvette Rear Spring Front Hanger Bracket

    Does anyone know the size and length of the 4 bolts and nuts that secure the rear spring front hanger bracket to the frame? I bought what I thought were the correct size but they were too short on the 2 bottom holes to get a nut on to. I believe they should have a lock washer and a nut.<br />
    <br />
    Corvettecentral.com shows the bolts and washers but don't show any nuts that come with the kit.<br />

    Can anyone help me out here?<br />

    Thanks,<br />

    Jason, Memory tells me no nuts. The bracket holes should be threaded, 3/8" - 24 fine thread IIRC.

      I'm referencing '57 info and I'd expect it to be the same as '58. The AIM shows two different P/N's for top and bottom bolts as the bottoms should be longer to go thru an extra reinforcing bracket thickness on the frame mounting bracket. If I remember correctly, the front spring hanger with four holes for the screws is already tapped (5/16-24 Fine? PS:don't hold me to the 5/16 size, Rich may be right.) so no nuts, & AIM shows lock washers under the heads of the bolts, none on the threaded end of the bolts.

      Generally speaking I think you can pretty much rely on CC's offerings being pretty accurate as to function with original parts, in other words the bolts they offer for this and other applications should function and fit correctly even though they may not be exact as to mfg's ID marks, etc. So if they don't seem to fit, the problem may be elsewhere.

      Do you have the AIM (Assembly Instruction Manual) for your car? If not, I'd suggest obtaining one if you're going to do much mechanical work on the car yourself. I'd say it's probably in the top two or three reference works I've gotten for mine. A wealth of information and guidance in figuring out how these cars were built. The pictures for the assembly you're working on answer the questions you've asked quite clearly (or maybe it's just that I've been there). Anyway, hope this helps.

        Thanks for the info Rich.

        Should thread locker be used?

          The brackets are 3731147 and 3731148 with 3/8-24 threaded holes.
          The 1956-7 bolts are 3/4 and 1" long 100025, 100026 with separate lockwashers 103321. 1958 and later bolts are 274420 with captive lock washers. The top bolts must protrude 1/4" farther in 1958.
