    Leaf Spring Bracket Trick

I am trying to tighten the nut back on to the rear leaf spring on my 58 Corvette and I am thinking that has to be a trick to do this. Is there a trick or do I just have to get something to hold on to the round end of the bolt in order to keep if from spinning when turning the nut?

    Hope this makes sense.

Here is a pic of what I am referring to:

There are splines/serrations around the OD of the head (big end) of the bolt you're referring to and the OD is a light interference fit into the hole in the bracket. As you tighten the nut it will pull the head of the bolt into the hole and the splines/fit will prevent the bolt from turning so it can be torqued properly. You can see the splines clearly in your first photo.

Ok got ya. Thanks for letting me know that I shouldnt try and hold the round side with a pair of pliers since it will eventually catch inside the circle area.

      Thanks

Tap the serrated end in a ways, then tighten down.
