    Source for tinted windshield glass

Now that Pilkington is out of the classic car glass, is there a source that's better than Auto City? Need new glass for a L79 AC conv.
I plan on having it judged for TF and beyond. Car has the A2 option.
    Thanks.

You have 2 choices. Get the Auto City glass and take the standard 5 point deduction for shade strip configuration or find a restorable used windshield with the correct date. A good used windshield is getting near impossible to find and expensive when you do.

Is the original glass just scratched or pitted? If so, it may be repairable.

I called Auto City for a 68 convertible tinted XX. They are back ordered till November. I still call monthly.

          Stewart,

You mentioned that original windshields can be restored. My '66 tinted windshield has no cracks but the shade strip is very faded. I'd planned to replace it with fresh glass but after reading this thread I'm interested in using my original. Does anyone have contact info for a reliable glass restorer?

              Gary,

No, I wouldn't think that was possible either. But since my tinted windshield is original to my '66 I definitely want to bring it to someone who pays a little more attention to detail than the average glass repair shops do. Mine has a small starburst chip in it and other road wear pitting. Guess I'll contact reputable local Corvette repair shops to see who they use and what can be done for this glass.

                  Thanks Stuart,

I appreciate the information. I plan on using my original windshield now even with it's faded shade strip.

Re: Source for tinted windshield glass

Just as a follow up to questions asked above, my current windshield is tinted correctly but is a PPG unit dated 1984 (Solar Shade). I know it will lose more points than the repo from Auto City.
I went with the Auto City w/s. I ordered it yesterday (the 29th) and it has already shipped with expected delivery of tomorrow (July 1st). It was for a 67 conv and dated for an Dec 66 ac car. (A02). Other glass may be on backorder but I called to make sure and the owner said they had 3 in stock and only had to pull one to date and ship. I had heard stories of "months" for delivery.

This is an Auto City tinted windshield logo installed in a 63. Note the lack of DOT info that is located at the very edge of the glass so it is 'hidden' when the weather strip is installed. Did that subject come up when you ordered your windshield?

The subject was not discussed. I neither asked nor did they offer such information.

I highly recommend Superglass. They're a nationwide franchise that specializes in glass repair; they do not sell replacement glass.

They can repair scratches, pits, and many starbursts.
