Need Help to Identify a Schwitzer Fan Clutch

    Hi
I have a Schwitzer fan clutch that came to me in a group of engine parts when I bought my 65 project car several years ago. I always assumed it was original to my 65 300hp car but now not sure. The date on the clutch shaft is SO 3-25-66

Would this be a correct OEM 1966 fan clutch.

    Thanks
    Dennis

    Dennis,

Tony Stein contributed an article on mid-year fan clutches for the current edition of the Texas Chapter's newsletter. It includes a few photos of what looks like your clutch. I don't know how to attach this PDF file, but it can be downloaded from ncrstexas.org.

I would agree, looks correct for a 66 built after 3/25/66. The hub shaft length will determine if small block or big block application.

        Thanks Mark & Kurt
I couldn't read that newsletter due to not being a Texas chapter member, I do know this is for a SB so looks like 1966 SB is the correct application.

          From Stein's article:
"This type was used for both small block (part no. 3814560) and big block (part no. 3857531) cars. The only difference between the Schwitzer small block and big block units is the length of the shaft. The small block shaft is 1.8 inches long whereas the big block shaft is 1.5 inches long."

There are three articles on C2 fan clutches in the NCRS Database of Restoration documents - one of those may help to answer your questions.

Thanks, measures out at 1.5" on the shaft face to clutch housing so looks like a 1966 427 Schwitzer fan clutch dated SC 3-25-66 (March 25 1966)
