I am thinking of raising the body off of the frame so I can replace fuel and brake lines. my question is: if I have the rag joint and splined adaptor removed, Do i still have to remove the steering column ? Scott

Re: 1968 427 L-71 Body off Frame
I have pulled two 69 bodys and left steering column intact by removing just what you described, But that doesn't make it right and I had no issues. I am not known to be smartest tool in the box- Top

Re: 1968 427 L-71 Body off Frame
I have removed all of the body mount bolts and the radiator support bolts, all the shims and "pucks" from mounts 1, 3, and 4, #2 mount still has shims and pucks. I have a list of all of the items to remove before lifting the body and have double checked all are done. When I start to lift the body the frame is not disconnected, yet I have checked all mounts and there is no binding ! Please, any suggestions are welcome. Scott- Top

Re: 1968 427 L-71 Body off Frame
There is a short steel cable bolted to the inner seat belt mounts that is attached to the frame. It is easy to miss and it is probably what is keeping the body from being free of the frame.- Top
