Routing of Reverse Lock Out Cable- 1970 Muncie

    Two questions:

1- How is the "Backdrive Cable" aka reverse lockout cable routed? AIM (see below) shows its transmission bracket BELOW the shift levers. This is probably in error since this bracket is mounted above the levers. The cable in my car goes from its bracket that's ABOVE the shift levers, then along the top edge of the side cover, then routes just above the the clutch fork boot to the steering column. I'm asking because the cable is very close to the clutch fork boot, and I wonder if this is correct.

2- Is there a loop retainer holding the cable in place that's attached to the top front bolt for the side cover (or any brackets/retainers along the length of the cable)? My car has this but it looks like it may have been added in the field. AIM does not show this retainer but it doesn't seem to be accurate regarding this cable.

Mark you are correct the AIM is wrong, there is a little bracket on the upper from corner of the side plate. A9C1BABC-707D-48B2-844A-07DD19EE000E.jpeg

There are 2 brackets actually….you can see the other one at the back of the side cover.

I can't clearly see the second bracket in the back. Is it the same part as the front bracket? CC has a diagram that more accurately depicts cable routing. It shows the front bracket on the side case but not a second one.

The back bracket is different than the front, the cable passes through the rear bracket. You can see it in the photo that the rear bracket is attached at the tail shaft housing at the tail shaft to the case upper bolt.

As previously mentioned, there should be two brackets. I appears to me that pages 7 B 4 and 7 B 5 illustrate how the routing and bracketing should be for a 3-speed, even though you couldn't get a 3-speed in 1970. Illustration shows only two shifter arms and two shifter rods.
