Re: 66 AC, STV Valve or POA Valve

Sorry, but I've never been able to solve that one. The current '66 TIM & JG only states "One Schrader valve with a cadmium or zinc plated hex-cap is located on the outboard side of the muffler. Early cars having the swaged case design may have two Schrader valves, as in 1965 production."

Here are some progress pictures of the Restoration of the STV valve area. Thank you Mike for the great pictures of the original unit! They have been a great resource. Also thank you to Harry for all your help and for sending me the Mid Year AC presentation it continues to be a great resource as well. I am far from complete on this project, or know if the STV Valve I rebuilt/assorted components will work? Regardless I am trying to appreciate this small victory and to enjoy the journey........ To be continued.

          Gino,
Looks like Mike and others have provided you with some great information and pictures. My '66 L36 air car was recently judged at French Lick and did well, so if I can offer and assistance let me know. I got a tremendous amount of assistance in the rebuild process from guys on this forum. You should be able to access those threads, they were from a year or so ago.

          a few comments:
Domenic is definitely the guy for your compressor- he can provide a date coded endplate.
Rebuild the STV valve yourself-I know of no service providers that will do it properly. Aquire the parts and use the service manual procedure.
My 3/66 build car had just one schrader valve tap on the manifold (HP). Early cars may have two taps. Picture is before rebuilding process.

Let me know if I can help.
          Joe

Thanks Joe, I appreciate. I did rebuild the STV Valve myself using the service manual. I am hoping for the best!! I have read so much negative stuff about the STV Valve that I am questioning if it will work. Domenic is working on my compressor currently, sounds like he is the Man for the job. He has been great to work with so far. If you have any under dash pictures I would love to look a those. Especially on the drivers side, ducting, cables and vents. I am strugg

Sorry I accidentally hit send before I was finished.
I am struggling a bit with all the cables and duct work. Thanks for the pics and the help!

                Gino,
As you are probably well aware the behind and under dash configuration of cables, wiring, and ducts is very challenging. I probably reassembled it three times to get the assembly sequence correct. The '66 assembly manual was the best help. Obviously the radio and glove box installed after the HVAC equipment. Insure the heater control valve vacuum switch behind the glove box operates correctly and does not leak before closing up the dash. Also the back lighting of the center console control switches is a challenge with all the ducting. I will see what pictures I have and pass them on.
