How the C8 Z06 is Made

Seeing as making a Z06 is technical, I thought that this may be relevant to board.

A pretty interesting 40 minute documentary on the making of the C8 Z06,

You can see many of the detailed steps, and it explains manufacturing, assembly, exporting etc.

Someday...... people will be referencing this as they restore them I'm sure

    Hi Mick,

I've seen this before, but watched it again.

What strikes me compared to what I saw many years ago in other plants is how clean and bright the Assembly Plant is.

Also, it's amazing how much attention has been paid to ergonomics - lifting fixtures bringing the car or part to the worker rather than making the worker bend over or struggle to perform their tasks.

1,200 employees on 3 full shifts is also amazing (400 per shift). I don't know if that number includes the front office and maintenance folks, but the multitude of robots shown has certainly reduced employee demand - and has probably saved a few serious injuries here and there.

And, as many have said, the "just-in-time" sequencing of all the parts meeting the line at the right time and car needed for the widely varying option combinations is a logistics marvel.
    thx,
    Mark

Absolutely Mark, it’s really amazing to see a modern plant in action and a whole new generation of builders that love working to build them.

I also thought it was interesting how the two people who made the video called out the aftercare for a corvette as a standout among supercars.

I just spent two days and three tours of the plant watching my 2023 Z06 being built. I wish to echo your observations. It is indeed a marveel to see the operation wnen they are building coupes and convertibles, foreigen speced cars (several different detailed modles -- Japan is different than Europe which is diffent than UAE) some right-hand drive as well as different engines with about 3/4 of the body panels for Z06 different. And rhen there are different colors just for a little more complication.Computers and bar code readers help, but there is still the human factor and stuff always happens.

        Just some minor details:
There are basicly two production shifts per 5-day week, but some minor maintenance does take place on a third shift. Most maintenanced takes place on the weekends, They produce 99 cars per shift so 198 cars a day. 40 of the daily production are currently Z06s. Each work station has 3 to 5 minutes to complete their assigned task(s)

The lighting is focused on the work stations and except for the newer buildings leaves something to be desired for us spectators. During breaks the lighting is turned off as a cost saving measure. That saves $40,000, but I have forgotten the time perion. I think per month, but I am not sure. The fact that they take that kind of economy measures is impressive. Then there is recycling od packing materials and other waste,

A viewing station for the new paint booths (there are three lines through the paint facilities) ia a welcome addition from the tours of three or more years ago. The Corvette Museum now operates the tours. While the tours are now more expensive than they used to be ($50 for non-museum members) ithey are impressive. Tours can be scheduked through the Museum.

3,211 as of yesterday. My number is coming up late summer (Masse E. Providence, R.I.). Hope to be driving this beast in the Fall.

This is the image I was thinking about when I wrote the ergonomics comment above...

For those of us who have removed C2 seats, can you imagine this guy doing this 6 to 7 hours per day (depending upon how much break time he got ?)

My back hurts just looking at this
