C2 Starter Letter and number stamps at bottom

On C2 starters there are three sets of information The first is the part number then the manufactured date code. The third set of letter / number are at the bottom. Example 1 A or 3 A, etc. Anyone know what this last set of numbers represents? Maybe a mold number and shift? Thanks.

My '67 starter, for L79, does not have that third set of numbers.

Leif, I see the 320 starters with and without the number and letter I am researching. I know the 320 was used on other GM cars, so could there be some significance to number / letter versus no number/ letter?

The '67 jg states that the "additional numbers below the Delco -Remy logo identify the production line and shift. I does beg the question why some have this information and some do not.
