Looking for a C4 specialty and experienced paint shop for hood R/I paint & alignment

So, I made an unforced error on my 95. I have dealt with a local body shop for years and have know their in house paint buffer for just a long. Always have seen nothing but perfect work. Let me say no one has touched my car but me for over two decades, but it needed a really light buffing and polishing due to some rail dust (always stored inside). So I dropped it off on a Friday and they buffed it over the weekend. Picked it up on Monday and took it home back under the car cover in the garage until I had time to get it out and wash it and get the lint and other things like that back to perfect condition. Well, I pulled the car out last week (buffed 3 months ago) and sure enough, they burnt through the rear bumper lip where it attaches meets the drivers quarter(yes I did specifically tell them to tape the hard body lines and lips) and also a tiny place on the front hood near the driver side where the hood meets the door. Well 99.9%of people would never notice it ( not including NCRS people ) but I can't stand it. Rear bumper I can handle ,I can strip it down remove the riveted braces etc and paint it to perfection. Hood needs to come off to do it right, problem is, I am a one man show and last one I did took about 2 months to get it aligned to my satisfaction (included waiting for friends to be able to help me set and adjust. I do know about the tricks to adjust and tighten the hood hinges and shims though the headlight openings with the lamps out, adjust to doors then bumper etc. So my questions to all, and I hope this is appropriate for the tech forum, is there a Corvette shop that does enough C4's and has the C4 experience to do this for me? I don't know of a single C4 specialty shop for this kind of service. I am in Alabama so southeast area would be ideal. Thanks for reading and thanks in advance. Delete if not appropriate. Thanks!

Maybe I don't understand... why remove the hood because of a small paint burn near the door? Is this a job a good painter can handle?

Mark, its because they burned the corner of the hood.. the curved area above the driver fender and below the top left corner of the hood. I used door reference to explain where the burn is at. Yes, the hood could painted on car, and I have done it myself over the years but you can never tape off the underside (black area) perfect and the area around the headlamp buckets (even taken out) are impossible to get perfect on car. If I am gonna paint it, its gotta be perfect and off car is the only way to truly achieve that. That is also not including the wet sand and buff that I don't want running into my engine back and body.

        Chris,

        what a PITA...

So, have you advised the shop who did the buffing what happened ?
Did they tape it as you requested ?
Have they offered to fix it ?
or are you no longer trusting their "expertise" ?
        thx,
        Mark

Hi Mark. No I did not inform the shop, what good would it do? They are (the shop) one of my customers and the buffer whom I have seen his work for years (which is why I let him buff it) did it over a weekend for $600. Didn't tell him either. The bell has been rung, as they say. My bad for letting ANYONE touch my car besides me. I would do it myself if I had the paintbooth and more importantly the three of four sets of hands to help me set the hood. Every C4 hood I have taken off and paint was weeks of work to adjust properly where the gaps are right and the hood springs open correctly and closes correctly. Last one I did, we chipped the hood when aligning so stripped it back down and painted it again then went back to adjustment.

            Understood on all counts, Chris

I too have removed and replaced my hood. Not fun to get it just right.

Two guys did the hood install and fitting at the factories (St. L and Ionia).
Not sure what they used for "fitting"...a fixture ? jig ? spacers ? shims ?
            thx,
            Mark
