Can someone please post a pic of the power steering cap? Metal or plastic on 66?

    Thanks,

    It's metal. Dipstick is plastic.

No, I if the cap looks like this one, it’s correct. I think I was incorrect about the dipstick. It’s the later cap that used a plastic dipstick. I have an NOS example [not for sale] of the pictured cap but I was too lazy to go dig it out, so I was going from memory and my memory proved faulty.

        ADDENDUM:

I thought about this some more. Are you sure the dipstick part of the cap is metal? The more I thought about it, the more it seems to me that the dipstick is plastic even on the early caps like yours. If you are SURE it's metal, please post a photo of it.

Tom, Back in 2013 I restored a '67. We added Power Steering. The pump came from Lone Star Caliper. It had a Plastic cap, top and dipstick.

I wanted the metal cap. I called Ken at Lone star and he sent me one.... Just like yours, metal dipstick too IIRC.

You may want to give him a call or email him. He knows much about the caps.

I checked his website earlier but it's inop.

I don't know what that cap is. However, I suspect it's from a much earlier application, possibly a GM #5687267. The cap used for 1966 was first used for 1960 Chevrolet models and used for Corvettes from 1963 through 1968 and, possibly, very early 1969. So, I don't see any chance that an earlier cap would have "crossed-over" to 1966.

These are the original P/S caps for mid-years. I am not sure why some had black measuring sticks and some had white measuring sticks. Maybe someone knows the answer.

Yes, these are the GM #5690846 which is what GM says was used for 1963-E69 Corvettes and what I am familiar with for those applications.

I do not know why the difference in color of the dipstick. However, I have noted it, too, but do not know if one color or the other is correct for specific years.
