AFB 1963, 3461S Base plate differences

I've noticed three different configuration of the holes in the base plate to mount the carb. to the manifold.

    1) 2 holes at each corner, second picture, dated CG3
    2) 2 holes left front and right rear, one hole right front and left rear, first picture, dated CC3
    3) 2 holes right front and left rear, one hole left front and right rear, no picture

    Any thoughts?

The original (CB3) AFB to my SWC's 340 HP engine has two same size holes at the left front, and right rear, the RF and LR corners just one. It has never been modified other than primary jet/rod changes.

It may be an optical illusion, but in the bottom photo each of the front corners appear to have different diameter holes. On my AFB they are definitely the same diameter.

In that era the AFB was also used by Pontiac and maybe other GM divisions (?), and I believe Chrysler also used the AFB. Maybe the same main body casting was used for various AFB models and was machined with multiple stud patterns for the various applications across the entire industry.

Duke, That's what a friend and I have been thinking, multi-manufacturer use. Just was looking to see what others thought.

      Thanks
