    65 Coupe cigarette lighter

I installed a 30 amp fuse in line with the cigarette lighter several years ago. Now preparing for an operations test, and the lighter works once and then blows fuses? Ideas?

Issues with the lighter housing or element once it gets hot. Lighter housing may be expanding when it gets hot and not releasing the element? May nee to attempt to adjust the three prongs in the housing so that it will release it sooner? Just my 2 cents.

How do I remove the lighter assembly and replace it with a new one?

Remove the cigarette lighter lamp shield, should be able to squeeze it a little, remove the lighter element wire, then just unscrew it from the back side.

Yes, I would also have the battery disconnected.

depending on how big your hands are, you may find you need to drop the steering column support and the vent pull. Once I got these two out of my way it was a lot easier to get access to the cig lighter retainer to unscrew it.

I’m impressed that you took the initiative to install that fuse. Who know what would have happened without it. Everyone agrees a fuse makes sense for the lighter, but how many people actually follow through and install one???

                  Gary
Gary: Don't say "Everyone". By doing this it makes the car NOT original. Sorry but they make such a commotion about
adding side pipes but I SEE NO DIFFERENCE ON DOING THIS. I will leave my original cigarette lighter alone
and W/O a fuse but just will not use it;even not in an operations test. Of Course JMHO>Larry P.S. Points should
be taken off if the judges could see the fuse. JMHO

This is a case where for safety it does make sense; just wanted to point out where "originality" comes into play.
                  Tough call for sure. Thanks>Larry
